"Two Art Displays in Greifswald's Small Town Hall Gallery and St. Spiritus Church Hall"
The city of Greifswald is gearing up for a creative celebration as it marks its 775th anniversary. From August 21 to September 26, 2025, the Soziokulturelle Zentrum St. Spiritus and the Kleine Rathausgalerie will play host to an exhibition titled "Greifswald's 775th Anniversary Celebrations".
The exhibition is a testament to the creativity and talent of the people in and around Greifswald. Director Imke Freiberg expressed her delight at the number of artworks submitted, with around 120 exhibits in various techniques such as photos, paintings, drawings, prints, textile and ceramic artworks, and other objects.
Visitors are invited to explore this diverse collection, which includes works from professional artists, amateurs, children, and seniors. The exhibition demonstrates a positive connection to the hometown of Greifswald, showcasing the creativity that flourishes within its community.
Admission to the exhibition remains free for visitors. The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 20, at 6:00 PM at the Kleine Rathausgalerie and 7:00 PM at St. Spiritus. The exhibition will then run until September 26.
During the exhibition, visitors can vote for their five favorite pieces. The five winning pieces will be released as a postcard series in November. One of the artists whose work might feature in the series is Barbara Behr, known for her unique combination of nostalgic charm with modern and often humorous design in her postcards.
On September 25, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, St. Spiritus will host a screen printing action with a Greifswald motif as part of the finissage. This is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to engage with the art and learn about the screen printing process.
Don't miss out on this wonderful celebration of Greifswald's rich history and vibrant community. Visit the exhibition, vote for your favorite pieces, and perhaps even take home a piece of Greifswald's 775th anniversary as a postcard.
