Uncover the Ideal Home Plant for Your Astrological Symbol
Looking to expand your houseplant collection next time? Consider consulting the stars! Some believe that your zodiac sign can offer insights into your personality and character, and that the position of the stars and planets at your birth can even predict your future. You can apply this same analysis to various aspects of your life, including decorating, choosing a cocktail, or even decluttering. Astrologer Clarisse Monahan shares the following houseplants that are a great fit for each zodiac sign's personality traits.
Clarisse Monahan is a professional astrologer and tarot reader.
01 of 12
Aquarius (January 20-February 18), ZZ Plant
"The innovation-loving Aquarius will adore the ZZ Plant," Monahan suggests. This drought-tolerant houseplant is simple to care for and has glossy leaves that can add a modern touch to any room. If you're looking for something with a bit more drama, look for the 'Raven' ZZ variety, which has dark, almost black foliage. ZZ plants grow up to 3 feet tall and can tolerate various lighting conditions, from low to bright light.

Pisces (February 19-March 20), Jasmine
"Pisces, the dreamer of the zodiac, needs something calm and soothing," Monahan advises. Add a jasmine plant to your home to help create a relaxing retreat. Keep this plant in a sunny spot, such as a south-facing window, and maintain consistently moist soil. As a houseplant, jasmine will not grow as large as it would in a garden, so expect it to reach up to 2 feet tall.

Aries (March 21-April 19), Zebra Plant
"Low-maintenance is what Aries needs in a plant," Monahan says. The zebra plant, also known as the zebra cactus or haworthia, fits the bill perfectly. This bold succulent features white stripes on dark green foliage and will draw attention to your home. Grow it in bright light and let the soil dry out between waterings. Zebra plants will stay less than 1 foot tall and wide, making it easy to place on a windowsill.

Taurus (April 20-May 20), Heart Leaf Philodendron
"Taurus, the Venus-ruled sign, matches well with the romantic heart leaf philodendron," Monahan suggests. The plant's heart-shaped leaves represent love and beauty, making it a great fit for this earth sign. Grow it in a spot with low to bright but indirect light, and water when the soil is dry. With proper care, it can eventually turn your home into a jungle with vines that may reach up to 8 feet.

Gemini (May 21-June 20), English Ivy
"Gemini, the air sign, loves things breezy and fresh," Monahan points out. English ivy plants are a great choice, as they grow well in hanging baskets and add a fresh, airy aesthetic to your space. Place it in medium or bright light and keep the soil evenly moist. English ivy vines can eventually reach 6 feet or more.

Cancer (June 21-July 22), Lucky Bamboo
"Water sign Cancer matches wonderfully with a houseplant that thrives in standing water: Lucky Bamboo," Monahan says. This plant is commonly used in feng shui to attract positive energy and good luck into your home. Grow it in bright indirect light and change the water every two weeks. You can also grow lucky bamboo in soil as long as you keep it consistently moist. Eventually, this plant can reach up to 3 feet tall.

Leo (July 23-August 22), Amaryllis
"Leo, the royal sign, is worthy of a royal plant," Monahan notes. Amaryllis plants are a striking choice with their large, vibrant blooms. Plant a bulb in a pot with soil, and it can grow as a year-round houseplant. One of the popular varieties for Leo is 'Red Lion,' which features bright red flowers. Amaryllis plants can grow up to 2 feet tall in bright light and only need watering when the top inch of soil is dry.

Virgo (August 23-September 22), Banana Plant
"Detail-oriented Virgo appreciates the challenging nature of the banana plant," Monahan suggests. Despite its fussiness, the banana plant's bright green foliage and exotic appeal make it a captivating addition to your home. Grow it in bright, indirect light and provide plenty of ventilation. Be prepared for the plant to require consistent care and attention to thrive.

Libra (September 23-October 22), Peace Lily
"Lovely and elegant Libra deserves a plant that embodies harmony and balance: the Peace Lily," Monahan suggests. This plant is a popular choice for its striking white blooms and its ability to clean the air in your home. It prefers low to bright but indirect light and should be watered consistently, making it a low-maintenance option for the air sign.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21), Rubber Tree Plant (Ficus elastica)
"Intense Scorpio needs a plant that can match its fiery personality: the Rubber Tree Plant (Ficus elastica)," Monahan says. This tall, exotic plant grows beautifully in bright, indirect light and can tolerate low light as well. With its shiny, glossy leaves and unique, twisted trunk, it adds a striking presence to any space.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21), Snake Plant
"Adventurous Sagittarius is a great fit for the robust Snake Plant," Monahan notes. This plant is incredibly hardy and can thrive in various lighting conditions, from low to bright light. It's also known for its ability to filter the air, making it an excellent choice for this sign that values health and wellness.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19), Spider Plant
"Responsible Capricorn will cherish the Spider Plant," Monahan suggests. This plant is easy to care for and can improve indoor air quality. It also grows well in low to bright light, making it a practical choice for this sign that values efficiency and organization.
Generally grown outdoors for their fruit, it's possible to cultivate dwarf banana plants indoors, adding a exotic vibe to your living space (though don't anticipate a yield). Grow in ample, direct light, and water frequently; banana plants are exceptionally thirsty during active growth. They can grow as tall as 6 feet indoors, while certain varieties remain under 4 feet.
09of 12## Libra (September 23-October 22), Bead Strings
"Libra, the scale sign, seeks balance and tranquility at home," Monahan explains, making a hanging display filled with bead strings an appropriate pick. If you'd like to reflect this zodiac sign's symbolism, hang two string sets side by side, creating an illusion of Libra's balanced scales. Hang in a spot with bright, indirect light and water when the top inch of soil is dry. Most plants will remain of modest size, but the succulent can eventually extend up to 3 feet.
10of 12## Scorpio (October 23-November 21), Sailor's Snake
Sailor's snakes are near indestructible, and they boast strong, tall leaves finishing with a pointed tip. "The aesthetic and character of the Scorpio, who prefers the darker and mysterious, will be appealed to by the Sailor's snake," Monahan suggests. Sailor's snakes can tolerate a broad range of conditions, but they don't prefer overwatering. Opt for letting them dry out, and only water when the soil is completely dry. Growing up to 4 feet tall, sailor's snakes will thrive in any light condition, from low to bright.
11of 12## Sagittarius (November 22-December 21), Baseball Sphere
A type of succulent, baseball spheres resemble large, rounded cacti without the spines. "The free-spirited nature of the Archer fits well with the baseball sphere, which can withstand being left alone for extended periods," Monahan notes.
Like all succulents, the baseball sphere can endure a degree of neglect as long as it receives ample, indirect light. A mature plant will reach about 8 inches tall, and only needs watering when the soil is completely dry.
12of 12## Capricorn (December 22-January 19), Boxwood
Boxwoods may develop slowly, but as Monahan mentions, "Capricorn, dominated by Saturn, embodies the virtues of patience." If you offer a boxwood the proper care and time to grow, it can stretch up to 5 feet, though that may take years, if not decades. Eventually, this charming plant will resemble a miniature tree. Grow in bright light, and water when the soil is dry.
