UNESCO Site George Town Welcomes Luxury Boutique Hotel Soori Penang in 2026

Architect Jackie Chan, a native of Penang, is transforming 15 heritage shophouses in George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, into a luxury boutique hotel. Soori Penang, slated to open in January 2026, is the sibling property to Soori Bali and aims to provide authentic experiences rooted in place, people, and design.

Originally owned by the Ng family, the hotel is a personal project for Chan, who seeks to preserve the original architectural features while incorporating local traditions into the design. Each of the expansive one- to three-bedroom suites will boast custom-designed furniture and artisan-made accessories.

Soori Penang will offer guests exclusive access to the iconic Khoo Kongsi Temple. The hotel will also provide curated experiences connecting guests with Penang's culinary, artistic, and cultural heartbeat. To unwind, guests can visit the wellness spa or the fitness room. Four food and beverage venues will serve up local cuisine, ensuring a truly immersive experience.

Soori Penang, set to open in January 2026, is more than just a hotel; it's a celebration of Penang's rich history and culture. With its unique location, authentic experiences, and luxurious amenities, it promises to be a must-visit destination for discerning travelers.
