Urban Harmony plays out on city streetscapes
In the heart of Almaty, LLP "Astana Zelenstroy" has been working tirelessly to improve the city's urban environment and provide residents with more comfortable living conditions. This year alone, they have made significant strides in their greening efforts.
A total of 281 decorative shrubs have been planted, adding a splash of colour and life to the cityscape. Over 240,000 units of flower seedlings have been placed in the landscaped flower beds, transforming them into vibrant, blooming oases. The variety of plants used includes petunia, salvia, tangerine, periwinkle, cineraria, pelargonium, decorative cabbage, decorative grasses, Hungarian lilac, bushy cinquefoil, shiny kiwi, hydrangea, meadow sage, catmint, and verbena.
The selection of these plants is based on their decorative value, considering factors such as crown shape, height, flowering, and resistance to urban conditions. The trees planted this year include birch, poplar, maple, red willow, common pine, small-leaved linden, and Siberian spruce.
However, these greening efforts come with challenges. Delays in delivery from unscrupulous suppliers, issues due to the presence of underground utility networks, and adverse weather conditions are some of the main obstacles faced. Despite these hurdles, LLP "Astana Zelenstroy" has managed to maintain an average plant survival rate of 65-70% in the city.
To ensure the survival and thriving of these plants, various maintenance activities are performed. This includes watering with mineral fertilizers, weeding, loosening of the root zone, sanitary, formative, and rejuvenating pruning of trees and shrubs, as well as treatment against pests and diseases.
Looking ahead, LLP "Astana Zelenstroy" has ambitious plans for the Almaty district by 2026. They aim to significantly expand the scale of greening, with plans to plant approximately 5,000 trees, around 10,000 shrubs, and install about 8,000 meters of live fencing.
These measures are not just cosmetic. They aim to improve the quality of the urban environment, creating a greener, more sustainable, and healthier city for all to enjoy. All planted green spaces are transferred to the balance of district akimats for maintenance work, ensuring their continued care and growth.
As we move forward, it's clear that LLP "Astana Zelenstroy" is committed to enhancing urban greenery, improving the environment, and contributing to the ecological well-being of the Almaty district by 2026 and beyond.
The home-and-garden section of the city is set to flourish, as a diverse array of plants like petunia, salvia, tangerine, and hydrangea are being planted, transforming it into a vibrant lifestyle destination. With plans to plant thousands of trees, shrubs, and install live fencing, the city will witness a significant increase in its urban greenery, promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment.
