Detmold Hosts Urban Development Day on May 10, 2025

The city of Detmold is set to host an Urban Development Day as part of the nationwide campaign "Lively Places. Strong Communities." on May 10, 2025. This event aims to foster dialogue and participation in urban development, as stated by Mayor Frank Hilker, who believes that urban development lives from dialogue and participation.

The day's activities will kick off at 2pm and continue until 8pm, offering a varied program. Participants can embark on city tours, construction site visits, and interactive activities for children. A neighborhood walk through the former British settlement will take place at 3pm, with the meeting point at Siegfriedstraße / corner Adenauerstraße.

Interested parties can also take a stroll through the historic old town with Cornelia Müller-Hisje, learning background information about renovated buildings with funding. For those eager to learn about sustainable development of central urban spaces, a construction site tour on the Schlossplatz will be a highlight. Both tours will start at 2pm and 3:30pm.

Children are not left out of the festivities, as they can participate in a scavenger hunt through the old town between 2pm and 5pm, with a cool surprise at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz. The day will conclude with a small snack.

From 6pm, the city invites participants to the Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße for an evening exchange with experts on urban development, old building renovation, and development prospects.

Mayor Hilker plans to realize similar projects in the future and aims to contact the new Federal Minister of Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote such housing projects more strongly. Regierungspräsidentin Anna Katharina Bölling also wants to replicate these successful housing projects in other cities and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The "Heimspiel OWL" team of the Detmold sports association will offer games and fun at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz. The city portal offers a 360-degree tour on the "Urban Development Day" subpage for a virtual and interactive experience of the day's projects.

For inquiries, the city portal can be contacted, with Torben Gocke as the contact person, reachable at Email 05231 977 401. The press release for this event was issued by the city portal.
