Weekend Event: Grand Performance by Samba Universo Ensemble
Crank Up the Samba in Dresden's Neustadt! 🎶💃
Mark your calendars, folks! From June 13th to 15th, 2025, Neustadt will be pulsating with rhythm as Samba Universe, a local Samba school, invites you to a weekend brimming with music, dance, and multicultural vibrancy as part of the neighborhood festival "Summer Neustadt in Color".
Get ready for an electrifying display of energy as over 150 musicians, dancers, and singers from Europe and Brazil join forces to perform in open rehearsals, an electrifying concert, and a grand parade like no other down the main street. According to Sven Schüler, the founder and 'Mestre' of Samba Universe, "For Brazilian Samba schools, the Carnival in Rio is the absolute pinnacle of the year. But now, even without the BRN, it will be loud, colorful, and full of life every June."
📅 What's Happening When?
💪 Saturday, June 14th: The festival kicks off at 2 PM with a general rehearsal at Alaunplatz. This is your opportunity to witness international participants unite and practice together. 🎵
🎉 6:30 PM: Prepare to be mesmerized by the free concert, "Samba Universe & Friends", happening at Martin-Luther-Platz.
🌟 Sunday, June 15th: Get ready for the grand Samba parade starting at 1:30 PM at Jorge-Gomondai-Platz, making its way down the main street to the Golden Rider.
The Oliveira Brothers Arrive!
A major highlight will be the visit of the Oliveira brothers! These two taiani (leaders) from the prestigious Samba school "Acadêmicos do Salgueiro" in Rio de Janeiro will be gracing us for the third time. As Sven Schüler jokes, "It's like being a pop music fan, and Michael Jackson comes to give a moonwalk workshop." The international exchange and the strong connection with Samba schools worldwide is a hallmark of Samba Universe.
Established in 2011, Samba Universe now boasts around 50 active members and consistently offers beginner courses. The events in June will be supported by numerous volunteers. All program points are accessible, and entry is free!
The association secured a grant of 1,900 euros from the city district for the Samba summer, with unanimous support from the city district council members.
