Wine Week on the Rhine River in Wiesbaden has commenced
The 48th Rheingau Wine Week, one of the largest wine festivals in the region, is currently underway in the heart of Wiesbaden, Germany. The festival, which opened on Friday by Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor Christiane Hinninger, and the Rheingau and Wiesbaden Wine Majesties, continues until next Sunday, August 17.
Visitors can enjoy live music on three stages every day until 10 pm. On Monday, electronic and house beats will be played from 7 pm, followed by local up-and-coming DJs playing relaxing lounge music from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Some of the acts include "Kruger Rockt" and "Los 4 del Son", "Apetizer" and "Café Bossa", and New York soul-pop singer "Will G. & the Soul11 Band".
Wines from Wiesbaden's partner city, Kamjanez-Podilskyj (Ukraine), will be served at the festival this year, in addition to regional wines. The organizers call the wine stands around Market Church, Schlossplatz, and the Dern'sche Grounds "the longest wine bar in the world".
The festival's complete program can be downloaded as a PDF here, and a map of all drink and food stands can be viewed here. For those planning to attend, it's important to note that the festival's opening hours are generally:
- Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to midnight
- Remaining days: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
On Sunday, stands open from 12 p.m. at the square in front of the Marktkirche. There are also mentions of 20 participating winegrowers, bicycle checkrooms, and bus parking.
If you're looking for more detailed information about the daily programs and performer lineup, we recommend checking the official Wiesbaden or Rheingau Wine Week websites or their event brochures closer to or during the festival dates, as such information is often published separately from logistical details. Our photographer Deniz captured some impressions of the opening ceremony on Friday. Enjoy the festival!
In case you are seeking more details about the food and drink options available, you may find it helpful to check the food-and-drink sections of the official Wiesbaden or Rheingau Wine Week websites or their event brochures during the festival dates, since such information is sometimes provided alongside the detailed daily program and performer lineup. For those who wish to refresh their homes after the festivities, home-and-garden vendors might be found among the various stands at the festival, adding a touch of exotic flair to other lifestyles.
